Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
An MRI uses a very strong magnetic field to build up a three dimensional picture of the breasts.
This type of scan requires a referral from one of our Consultant Surgeons and can be booked by our clinic staff. An MRI uses a very strong magnetic field to build up a three dimensional picture of the breasts. You will lie on a bed face down inside a narrow tube.
It takes the machine between 20 and 30 minutes to complete a breast MRI and during this time an injection of dye (contrast media) is carried out usually though a cannula placed in vein in your hand prior to the procedure. The Consultant Breast Surgeon will arrange for you to have this test in the most convenient location for you.
